4-Day Mount Meru Trek

The trek on Mount Meru takes place inside Arusha National Park and is usually completed in four days using a hut-based route from Momella Gate to the summit at Socialist Peak (4,566m). Detailed Itinerary

Start at Momella Gate with an armed ranger through the wildlife area — expect giraffes, buffalo, and monkeys — then a steady uphill forest trail to Miriakamba Hut. Elevation: 1,500m to 2,514m. Hiking: 4-6 hours.

A shorter but steeper day through moorland to Saddle Hut, arriving early for acclimatization with an optional afternoon hike to Little Meru viewpoint. Elevation: 2,514m to 3,570m. Hiking: 3-5 hours.

Summit attempt starting around midnight to Socialist Peak (4,566m), with sunrise views of Mount Kilimanjaro if weather is clear, then descend back via Saddle Hut to Miriakamba. Hiking: 10-12 hours total.

Return through the forest trail to the park gate, then transfer back to Arusha town.
