Mount Meru Trekking

The climb of Mount Meru inside Arusha National Park follows a gradual route from rainforest to alpine terrain, with overnight stays in mountain huts rather than tents. The trek begins with a forest walk where an armed ranger accompanies all groups due to wildlife in the lower park. As elevation increases, the trail becomes steeper and more exposed, especially on the final ridge leading to Socialist Peak. Most hiking days involve 4-6 hours on the trail, while summit day is significantly longer and starts around midnight. In clear weather, sunrise views often include nearby Mount Kilimanjaro.
